About the Warwick Lions Club

Warwick Lions Club Composite Picture ca. 1980
The Warwick Lions are people who use their spare time
to get involved with worthwhile activities - both fund raising and voluntary
work. That is not all; Fun and Fellowship are also part of the Clubs activities
We aim to serve the Community and have
fun doing it. Have you ever been to a Camel Racing Evening?
Each month there are two Meetings and
sometimes a Social Event, as all work and no play may stop the Lions Roaring!
The Warwick Lions Club was formed in 1961
We organise and take part in
several events during the year:
Warwick Carnival,
Warwick Town Firework Display, Carols at
the Castle, Race Day at Warwick Racecourse, Tin Shakes, Lions Cake Stall,
Car Boot Fairs, Easter Egg Draws, Sponsored Canal Walk ...........
90% of the money we raise is
spent locally.
We have helped individuals and
families with needs such as a pushchair, school uniforms, a cot, furniture
........................
Senior Citizens have been taken
to the Pantomime and other Shows.
Later this year we are providing
funding and transport to enable some partially sighted local people to go on
holiday in Norfolk.
For the elderly who live alone
and cannot afford the cost of a telephone Life Line, the Club has provided the
equipment on permanent loan.
There are all sorts of ways in
which we help Our Community.
Lions have
been working with a Charitable Organisation, Tacade, to produce useful teaching
material about Skills for Life & Drug Awareness.
The Warwick Lions Club has paid
to put these packages into all of the State Secondary Schools in Warwick. A new
Package has been produced to meet the national requirements for Primary Schools.
It is hoped that this can be provided to all of the Primary Schools in Warwick,
with the cost being met by the Lions Club.
We have made donations to a
number of natural disasters which have taken place in the World, and have funded
an Eye Camp in India. The money for these projects is always distributed by
local Lions Clubs in the Countries concerned.
We have an annual Tin Collection
so that we can provide food parcels at Christmas.
By tradition we pay for and help
with the Meals on Wheels Christmas Dinner.
Each month we help at the WRVS
shop at St. Michaels's Hospital.
It is now over 50 years since
the first Club was formed in Great Britain and Ireland. We are the largest
Service Club in the World, with over 1.4 million Lions working in 42,000 Clubs
Worldwide!
In Britain there are 24,000
Members in 1,000 Clubs.
The Lions motto is
" WE
SERVE "
We think we do, we hope you agree.
